Facilitator Mentor

Mentoring is sharing knowledge, skills and life experience to guide another towards reaching their full potential; it’s a journey of shared discovery.

The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image, but giving them the opportunity to create themselves.

The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to him his own.

Is this you?

If any of these things sound familiar, then a Personalised Mentoring Program will build confidence and enhance your skills.

Watching a great facilitator makes it look so simple, but Facilitation is an Art that takes hours of preparation and years of practice to hone.  You can fast-track your own learning journey by drawing on the years of experience and wisdom of a mentor.

Mentoring is a flexible way to meet your individual needs.

I’m highly motivated to mentor facilitators who are driven by their personal values to be humble and open, inclusive and caring, and lifelong learners.  It’s a great privilege to inspire self-belief and confidence, and create optimism about personal value and future possibilities.

I know the gift of learning can be life-changing.

Each mentoring arrangement will be as unique and individual as you are.  It might involve a regular 1-hour weekly session, casual blocks of time to focus on specific topics or needs, or more intensive internships and extended agreements.  (See What will it cost? section for more details.)

Some topics we are likely to explore include:

    • Finding your facilitator magic; your unique authenticity.

    • Knowing, celebrating and valuing your audience.

    • Changing paradigms from being the sage on the stage to becoming a guide on the side.   Becoming a genuine facilitator of learning.

    • Creating inclusive spaces so all learners feel safe, respected and genuinely valued as unique individuals.

    • Reading and managing group energy, dynamics, collaboration and interpersonal relationships.

    • Catering for multiple intelligences, learning styles and diverse personalities.

    • How to capture the imagination and excitement of all participants.

    • Embedding learning by using cognitive hooks, metaphor and aha moments.

    • Illuminating possibilities, igniting passions, inspiring greatness.

    • Injecting fun; using the unexpected to surprise and delight.

    • Inspiring flow; the sweet spot of stretch and challenge where people learn and grow.

    • Actively seeking feedback as a gift of information.

    • Creating connections through thoughtful curriculum planning, scope and sequence development, timetables and schedules.

    • Planning logistics; where, when, why, length, budget, resources, food, safety, and amenities.

    • Creating a cohesive visual identity through memorable branding, graphic design, eye-catching flyers and effective course materials.

    • Embracing Presentation Zen concepts to create beautiful slide presentations with master slides, embedded videos and powerful imagery.

    • Building your own facilitator toolkit; a treasure chest of resources, tools, activities, cooperative learning strategies, processes, templates, ice-breakers and energisers.

    • Weaving stories; effectively using Storytelling to connect and inspire.

    • Adventuring into paradise; organising outdoor learning.

    • Creatively and skillfully responding to change; fluid facilitation.

Sharing your knowledge, skills and passions with the world!

Standard Fees for one-on-one Mentoring are $80 per hour

Sessions can be organised on a casual or regular basis at a time that fits your other commitments.  Day, evening and weekend times are available by mutual arrangement.  You have individual needs, so flexibility is important to me.

Mentoring is either face-to-face at my home-based Learning Centre at Postmans Ridge, or via Zoom

Knowledge Exchange

Consistent with the Fair Share Ethic, I’m also open to discussing a variety of  non-monetary exchanges.

I believe this model makes mentoring accessible to anyone who has the time and energy to volunteer your assistance, or has other skills or services to offer.  So, instead of charging a fee for mentoring, learning may be exchanged for labour.  This could include physical assistance on our 5-acre property, or other skills or professional services you’re able to offer.  This concept has traditions in indigenous cultures where elders were valued by the tribe for their wisdom, and young people were valued for their fitness and enthusiasm.

Limited opportunities are also available for you to undertake an extended residential mentoring arrangement that could include accommodation, meals and mentoring in exchange for work on our property.

In addition to general work in our garden and with our animals, some of the other professional skills that would be useful to us in exchange are:

    • paving
    • painting
    • plastering
    • fencing
    • building
    • cob oven construction
    • rocket stove construction
    • butchering
    • pruning and grafting
    • preserving
    • fermenting

Please don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss all options and possibilities.
