The story behind the property
Madingley is the home of Permaculture Lockyer Valley Inc. members Debbie and Brodie Bassingthwaighte. It’s a peaceful 5 acres adjacent to seasonal Rocky Creek where their vision is to create a resilient, biodiverse, productive haven. Most of the external systems and infrastructure, along with the productive food plantings, have been established in the last few years since the destructive January 2011 flood swept through the property, so things are still immature and evolving.
What you’ll see and learn
As we explore the grounds you’ll see a polyculture of diverse vegetable, fruit and herb gardens, a large productive wicking bed of leafy greens, integrated poultry and small orchard system (with heritage chickens, Muscovy ducks, guinea fowl and a peacock), developing food forests, plant propagation nursery, worm farm, native bee hive, natural creek regeneration, birds and native wildlife.
Debbie will also share their plans for passive-solar home retrofitting, riparian restoration with wildlife corridor, possible future dam earthworks and a native fine cabinet timber forest. She’d also value your input and would love to hear your creative design ideas.
